{"id":1008,"date":"2019-11-08T09:08:04","date_gmt":"2019-11-08T09:08:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cityadventurers.co.uk\/blog\/?p=1008"},"modified":"2019-11-08T09:08:04","modified_gmt":"2019-11-08T09:08:04","slug":"jodrell-bank-becomes-the-uks-newest-unesco-world-heritage-site","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cityadventurers.co.uk\/blog\/?p=1008","title":{"rendered":"Jodrell Bank becomes the UK&#8217;s newest UNESCO World Heritage site"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>On Sunday 7th July 2019\u00a0<\/strong><strong style=\"color:var(--color-text);\">Jodrell Bank Observatory was awarded UNESCO World Heritage Site status<\/strong><strong style=\"color:var(--color-text);\">\u00a0in recognition of its internationally significant heritage, science and cultural impact.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The observatory is home to the Lovell Telescope,\u00a0\u00a0<span style=\"color:var(--color-text);\">the world\u2019s third largest steerable radio telescope, as well as\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color:var(--color-text);\">a number of radio telescopes.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color:var(--color-text);\">Owned by the University of Manchester, the observatory is part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jodrellbank.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jodrell Bank Centre<\/a> for Astrophysics.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"post-content-container content-page\">\n<p>The most striking feature of the Lovell Telescope is the huge white bowl that can be seen for many miles around.
