Where did this idea start?<\/h2>\n

The legend of the Easter Bunny can be traced back to\u00a0a 16th-century German character named Osterhase, or\u00a0\u201cthe Easter Hare.\u201d He is mentioned in De ovis paschalibus<\/em> (About Easter Eggs) by\u00a0Georg Franck von Frankenau.<\/p>\n

So, he\u2019s the\u00a0bringer of chocolate eggs, right?<\/h2>\n

Well originally the \u201cEaster Hare\u201d\u00a0played the role of a judge, evaluating whether children had been good or bad. A sort of Father Christmas for\u00a0Easter. Instead of bringing gifts, this benefactor\u00a0brought coloured eggs in his basket.<\/p>\n

Where did the idea of chocolate eggs\u00a0come from?<\/h2>\n

Some enterprising chocolatiers and confectioners in Europe and USA\u00a0in the 1800s.\u00a0As chocolate became easier to make and thus more affordable, the tradition spread.<\/p>\n

Chocolate eggs were made in France and Germany 200 years ago as solid eggs, not the hollow ones we see today.<\/p>\n

How tall was the tallest chocolate Easter egg?<\/h2>\n

According to the Guinness world records<\/a> the tallest chocolate Easter egg measured 10.39 m (34 ft 1.05 in) and had a circumference of 19.6 m (64 ft 3.65 in) at its widest point. It was made by Tosca and measured at Le Acciaierie Shopping Centre, in Cortenuova, Italy on 16 April 2011.<\/p>\n

The chocolate Easter egg weighed 7,200 kg (15,873 lbs 4.48 oz).<\/p>\n

Why are\u00a0chocolate Easter Bunnies Hollow?<\/h2>\n

Hollow bunnies are easier to eat.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you had a larger-size bunny and it was solid chocolate, it would be like a brick; you\u2019d be breaking teeth,\u201d says Mark Schlott<\/a>, one of the manufacturers of hollow chocolate bunnies.<\/p>\n
