Eggnog<\/em><\/h3>\n

Eggnog is traditionally made with milk or cream, sugar and whipped eggs, and brandy or rum.<\/p>\n

According to Wikipedia, Eggnog may have developed from the medieval drink made with hot milk and wine or ale called posset.\u00a0Eggs were added to some posset recipes.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0term \u201ceggnog\u201d was first used\u00a0in 1775, when Maryland clergyman and philologist Jonathan Boucher wrote a poem about the drink. The poem was not published until 30 years after his death. The first printed use of the term was in 1788 in the\u00a0New-Jersey Journal<\/i>\u00a0\u00a0which referred to a young man drinking a\u00a0glass of eggnog<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Mulled wine<\/em><\/h3>\n

A medieval English cookery book from 1390 mentioned mulled wine. Mulled wine is made by adding mulling spices to red wine. Sometimes raisins or other fruit are added along with sugar. It\u00a0can be\u00a0served hot or warm.<\/p>\n

Wassail<\/em><\/h3>\n

Wassail\u00a0is hot\u00a0traditional punch. It can be mulled\u00a0cider or made with brandy and sherry or rum. It is\u00a0traditionally drunk as part of\u00a0wassailing, or carol singing door to door.<\/p>\n
