Historic features of the garden that can still be seen include the original Haha, Sundial and Fruit Wall as well as the Great Oak planted in 1730.<\/p>\n<div id='gallery-2' class='gallery Oates Collections are also housed at Gilbert White&#8217;s museum.<\/h1>\n<p>The Oates\u00a0Collection exhibits focus on the lives and adventures of two members of the Oates Family, both pioneers and explorers of the natural world.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Captain Lawrence Oates (1880 \u2013 1912)<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Captain Lawrence Edward Grace &#8220;Titus&#8221; Oates was a British army officer, and later an Antarctic explorer, who died during the Terra Nova Expedition. Oates, afflicted with gangrene and frostbite, walked from his tent into a blizzard.<\/p>\n<h3>Frank Oates (1840 \u2013 1875)<\/h3>\n<p>Frank Oates, uncle of Captain Lawrence Oates, is the third of the explorers of the natural world commemorated at Selborne. Frank Oates\u00a0was a British\u00a0naturalist and\u00a0explorer.
