The following year\u00a0part of the street was lit for Christmas. The first full Christmas light display\u00a0of the street\u00a0started in 1954, although there were no Christmas lights from 1972 to 1977 due to a\u00a0lack of funding.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u2018THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS\u2019 RETURNS TO REGENT STREET<\/p>\n\n<p>Dubbed \u201cThe Spirit of Christmas\u201d, 300,000 sparkling LED lights, 16 large Spirits with a 17-metre wing span and 15-metre train of lights, run\u00a0the length of Regent Street and across Piccadilly into St James\u2019s, finishing at Waterloo Place.\u00a0 they were\u00a0switched on by\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.regentstreetonline.com\/events\/christmas-lights-switch-on-2018\">Jodie Whittaker<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0on 15<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0November 2018\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p>The sparkly lights of Oxford Street were switched on November 6th.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Covent Garden\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n<p>40 mistletoe chandeliers, 700 glistening berries and a giant Christmas tree form the base of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coventgarden.london\/whats-on\/covent-garden-switch-on-2018\">Covent Garden&#8217;s Christmas lights<\/a>\u00a0and decorations.\u00a0Covent Garden Christmas lights were switched on 13 November 2018.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-13341\" src=\"https:\/\/invitation2events.files.wordpress.com\/2018\/11\/20181126_135126.jpg?w=576\" alt=\"Covent Garden by Juliamaud\" \/><\/figure>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>London&#8217;s West End lights up for Christmas.
