\u00a0The Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race<\/span><\/h1>\n

The annual Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race is also\u00a0known as\u00a0the BNY Mellon Boat Race. It is\u00a0<\/span>contested by\u00a0two male rowing crews from Oxford and Cambridge universities. <\/span><\/p>\n

It\u00a0covers a four-and-a-quarter mile course, known as the Championship Course,\u00a0 along the River Thames. \u00a0The route stretches from Putney to Mortlake, starting\u00a0downstream of Putney Bridge and\u00a0finishing just before Chiswick Bridge. <\/span><\/p>\n

Oxford’s\u00a0 crew wear dark blue whereas Cambridge crews wear light blue.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

First Boat Races between<\/span> Oxford and Cambridge universities. <\/span><\/h2>\n
The first Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race <\/span>took place in 1829 in Henley on Thames. The Boat Race 1849\u00a0<\/a>notes that since the second race, in 1836, the contest has taken place in London.<\/span><\/div>\n

Almost 100 years after the men started racing, the women of Oxford and Cambridge universities began racing too.\u00a0The first Newton Women\u2019s Boat\u00a0Race\u00a0took place\u00a0in Oxford\u00a0 in 1927, despite male objections.\u00a0The Newton Women\u2019s Boat\u00a0Race\u00a0moved to Henley in the 1970’s.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n

Both races have become\u00a0regular Oxbridge sporting events.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Sporting history will be made on Saturday April 11th 2015<\/span><\/h2>\n

This year is the first that\u00a0the men’s crews and the women’s crews\u00a0will share the same race day on the Tideway. The Newton Women\u2019s Boat Race takes place at 4.50pm, followed by the BNY Mellon Boat Race at 5.50pm. Both races\u00a0will be shown live on the BBC<\/span><\/p>\n
