It is home to the oldest university in Scotland and the\u00a0\u00a0third oldest university in the English speaking world. St Andrews\u00a0university was founded in 1413 and\u00a0has\u00a0a reputation as one of Europe&#8217;s leading and most distinctive centres for teaching and research.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The University is an integral part of the burgh, and during term time students make up approximately one third of the town&#8217;s population. St Andrews has a population of 16,680, making it the fifth largest settlement in Fife.<\/p>\n<h2>St Andrews Girls<\/h2>\n<p>Girls were admitted to the University of St Andrews 123 years ago.
