Marble Hill House is one of the finest surviving examples of early 18th<\/sup> century architecture and landscaping in England. It was owned by Henrietta Howard, an influential figure in early Georgian London.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Henrietta was born into the Hobart family of Norfolk. Orphaned at a young age (12), she married the dissolute Charles Howard, the youngest son of the 5th Earl of Suffolk. Yet, this marriage opened doors for Henrietta. Introduced to the Hanoverian court, she later became the mistress of the Prince of Wales, who would become King George II. It was during this time at court that she embarked on the construction of Marble Hill, a Thames-side residence in Twickenham.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marble Hill wasn\u2019t just a house; it became a vibrant hub. Henrietta cultivated a circle of influential friends \u2013 prominent politicians and sharp satirists like Jonathan Swift, Alexander Pope, and Horace Walpole. Together, they engaged in lively discussions on culture, ideas, and politics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
