2025 marks Jane Austen\u2019s 250th anniversary. She is buried at Winchester Cathedral. Her final resting place can be found in the north nave aisle of the cathedral under a memorial stone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jane Austen\u2019s grave<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Her grave is surprisingly understated, a simple black ledger stone on the floor of the north aisle. Initially, the epitaph makes no mention of her literary genius, simply commemorating the \u201cbenevolence of her heart, the sweetness of her temper, and the extraordinary endowments of her mind.\u201d This quiet simplicity for the woman who wrote some of literature\u2019s most beloved stories and who created such wonderful characters as Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Darcy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later, a brass memorial plaque was added to the wall nearby, placed there to honour her as the author of Pride and Prejudice<\/em>, Sense and Sensibility<\/em>, and many other novels. This addition rightly celebrates her incredible legacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
