Coram\u2019s vision was brought to life through the extraordinary support of two cultural giants:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>William Hogarth:<\/strong>\u00a0The celebrated artist who transformed the hospital into the\u00a0UK\u2019s first public art gallery\u00a0by donating his own work and encouraging his contemporaries to do the same.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>George Frideric Handel:<\/strong>\u00a0The composer who famously held benefit concerts of his\u00a0<em>Messiah<\/em>\u00a0in the hospital chapel, a tradition that continues to be celebrated today.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cityadventurers.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/at-the-foundling-museum1.jpg?w=748\" alt=\"at the Foundling museum\" class=\"wp-image-7288\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">At the Foundling museum<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Poignant Treasures and Secrets<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The museum today houses deeply moving collections that tell the stories of the 25,000 children who lived there over two centuries:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cityadventurers.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/foundling-tokens.jpg?w=748\" alt=\"foundling tokens\" class=\"wp-image-7282\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">foundling tokens<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The Tokens:<\/strong>\u00a0Perhaps the most heart-wrenching exhibits are the small everyday objects\u2014coins, buttons, or scraps of fabric\u2014left by mothers with their babies.
