On our guided tour we learnt about the Age of Sail when the Dockyard built mighty ships that won command of the world\u2019s oceans. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Exploring Chatham Historic Dockyard<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We headed to Chatham Historic Dockyard for a fascinating look at more than 400 years of naval history. It\u2019s one of those places where you can wander around and suddenly realise you\u2019re standing somewhere that played a huge part in Britain\u2019s maritime past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We saw where ships were built and repaired. We even had a go at making rope ourselves and made a length of rope to take home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then came one of the highlights of the day: going aboard a submarine. It\u2019s certainly not the place to visit if you\u2019re looking for lots of personal space! Exploring the cramped interior gave us a real appreciation of what life must have been like for the men who lived and worked aboard these vessels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the historic buildings, ships, rope-making and submarine, there was plenty to explore and lots to talk about afterwards. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-9-16 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Visit to Chatham Dockyard\" width=\"563\" height=\"1000\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dbI927Zx2gQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Exploring what it\u2019s like to be on a submarine.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even with a small group tour it was cramped. Also had to learn how to get through the hatches\u2026.
