Raymond Chandler was born on July 23 in 1888.<\/h2>\n

Raymond Chandler is\u00a0best known for the character of Philip Marlowe. This tough but extremely ethical \u201cprivate eye,\u201d was the main character throughout most of his works.<\/p>\n

Although\u00a0born in America, Raymond Chandler spent most of his early life in England. After studying in\u00a0London, he travelled to France and Germany for further study.\u00a0Having returned\u00a0to the United States in his twenties,when World War I broke out he went back to\u00a0Europe,\u00a0serving\u00a0\u00a0in the Canadian Army, then the\u00a0Royal Air Force.<\/p>\n

During the Depression, he\u00a0lost his job as an oil company executive and instead decided to write detective fiction. He was already in his mid-foties\u00a0when he decided to become a full-time writer, producing\u00a0many highly acclaimed short stories, novels and screenplays.<\/p>\n
