Described\u00a0as a “landmark in the development of the novel of manners”, Evelina is the first novel written by a self-educated female author of enlightenment, Fanny Burney.\u00a0It\u00a0was first published in 1778.\u00a0Follow Evelina’s journey\u00a0around the streets of Georgian\u00a0London while learning more about\u00a0the themes running through the novel;\u00a0how women of differing classes were treated, the unwritten rules of public engagements and how to behave in order catch a desirable Georgian husband.<\/p>\n

This year the\u00a0unique Jacobs Gallery Space, Cardiff,\u00a0gives the ten artists an opportunity to\u00a0experiment, using the space in a flexible and organic way to deal and play with\u00a0the notion of what it means to be a woman artist in the 21st\u00a0century.
