September is Womb Cancer Awareness Month<\/h2>\n
Not that you’d know it from the amount of press coverage it gets.<\/p>\n
Womb cancer is the most common of the five gynaecological cancers (womb cancer, cervical cancer,\u00a0ovarian cancer, vaginal cancer and vulval cancer) and the fourth most common cancer to affect women in UK. So why do few people know about it?<\/p>\n
Well for a start, there is no\u00a0national womb cancer awareness campaign in operation\u00a0and apparently there are no plans for one. So\u00a0WombCancerSupportUK<\/a> have been\u00a0working to raise awareness and share information.\u00a0Womb Cancer Support UK are\u00a0a small voluntary not for profit organisation based on Isle of Bute off west coast of Scotland. Covering the whole of UK, t<\/span>he charity has been in operation since April 2011.<\/p>\n This year’s hashtags for fund raising events are #PeachTeaParty and #GiveWombCancerAVoice<\/p>\n Womb Cancer Support UK are part of\u00a0Cancer52, which represents nearly 100\u00a0predominantly small patient support group cancer charities.<\/span><\/p>\n The Eve Appeal supported Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month by\u00a0hosting a Talking Taboos Event to get women talking about their bodies and taking away taboos and fears. They found that often\u00a0the first time a woman hears of a gynae cancer is when they\u2019re sat in a room with a consultant being diagnosed with one.<\/p>\n They are calling on the Department of Education to amend their\u00a0draft guidance to schools so that children can learn, in an age-appropriate way, information about the HPV Vaccination Programme and cervical cancer screening programme. Their campaign is\u00a0Put Cancer on the<\/a> Curri<\/a>culum<\/a>.<\/p>\n In the USA, for\u00a0Gynae Cancer Awareness Month, the focus is on\u00a0ovarian cancer<\/a>.<\/p>\n A cancer with a much bigger profile is Breast Cancer.\u00a0#ShareTheCare is the hashtag for the 2018 campaign by\u00a0 breast cancer care<\/a> that aims to raise awareness that “A woman is more than just her body.
