You raise them and nurture them and help them grow into adults and then it\u2019s time to let them leave. Some are eager to fly, standing on the edge of the nest dreaming of jumping off. Some need a little help to get going. A gentle nudge over the rim.<\/p>\n

And then they fly.<\/p>\n

You can congratulate yourself on a job well done.<\/p>\n

Job done. Completed.<\/p>\n

Wait a minute. If the job is completed, finished, then I must be\u2026\u2026retired!<\/p>\n

Argggg!<\/p>\n

A few lucky people notice in advance that a change is coming. They are aware of the impending empty nest. For others this realisation comes as a shock.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ve spent decades raising the kids. Putting them first. Planning everything around them and their schedules and now what?<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve known people, women in particular, who feel their life is over if they don\u2019t have a child to take care of. They want to carry on nurturing. Some put their life on hold, waiting (hoping) for grandchildren. A lot get a dog.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s one way to deal with the void that can hit you.<\/p>\n

Another is to see the change of circumstance as an opportunity.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Now is the time to live the live you want. To fulfil your dreams.<\/p>\n

No worrying about babysitters\u2026..or what the teenagers will get up to while we are out.<\/p>\n

And no waiting until we retire from our other jobs. Time is short and precious. We need to make the most of it.<\/p>\n

And just because they have flown away doesn\u2019t mean they won\u2019t flutter back every so often. Be grateful when they do.<\/p>\n
