Regent Street was lined with Christmas trees\u00a0in 1948 throughout the festive period. The following year\u00a0part of the street was lit for Christmas. The first full Christmas light display\u00a0of the street\u00a0started in 1954. There were no Christmas lights from 1972 to 1977 due to a\u00a0lack of funding.<\/p>\n
A\u00a0new take on the 1954 Christmas Lights, this year display\u00a0is the largest scheme ever embarked on by Regent Street. This year 300,000 sparkling LED lights, 16 large Spirits with a 17-metre wing span and 15-metre train of lights,\u00a0will be used to light up\u00a0the Regent Street area. Dubbed “The Spirit of Christmas”, the lights\u00a0will run\u00a0the length of Regent Street and across Piccadilly into St James\u2019s, finishing at Waterloo Place.<\/p>\n
The switch-on event took place on Thursday 17th November with Holly Willoughby.<\/p>\n
The sparkly, glowing orbs return to Oxford Street for a fourth year. 750,000 LED lightbulbs and 1778 snowball-like decorations will adorn the street. They were switched on by\u00a0Craig David on Sunday November 6.<\/p>\n
