Prior to that it was widely considered a luxury. For example, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/news\/uk\/629175\/christmas-dinner-turkey-meal-lunch-festive-season-food\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the Express <\/a>notes that in the 1930s the average person had to work for a week to be able to buy a turkey.<\/p>\n<p class=\"storycopy\">\n<p class=\"storycopy\">In many\u00a0other European countries, turkey is not a traditional Christmas meal. For example \u00a0Germans serve\u00a0wild boar or venison.\u00a0In Portugal, the typical Christmas dinner\u00a0is codfish. Similarly,\u00a0in Sweden cooked and raw fish is served, as well as caviar and shellfish.<\/p>\n<h1 class=\"heading smaller video__title\">Turkey with all the trimmings<\/h1>\n<p>The BBC Good Food Guide has a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbcgoodfood.com\/videos\/techniques\/how-carve-turkey\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">video<\/a> to help you carve your turkey.<\/p>\n<p>And don&#8217;t forget the trimmings.
