However,\u00a0historian Hayd\u00e9e Reichard disputes this citing lack of evidence. Even if Cofresi had given his crew white rum, pineapple juice and coconut milk, the modern-day cocktail contains cream of coconut, that was not invented until 1954.<\/p>\n<p>Another story is that the pina colada was invented \u00a0in 1954 by\u00a0Ram\u00f3n &#8220;Monchito&#8221; Marrero, a bartender of the Hotel Caribe Hilton.\u00a0However, the Old San Juan bar and restaurant Barrachina, claims to be the originator of the famous rum, coconut and pineapple cocktail.<\/p>\n<h2>Escape<\/h2>\n<p>The iconic chorus &#8211; \u201cIf you like pi\u00f1a coladas and getting caught in the rain\u201d features in the song &#8220;Escape&#8221; written and sung by Rupert Holmes.
