Christmas lights

London’s West End lights up for Christmas.

Back in 1948, Regent Street started being lined with Christmas trees throughout the festive period. The following year part of the street was lit for Christmas. The first full Christmas light display of the street started in 1954, although there were no Christmas lights from 1972 to 1977 due to a lack of funding.

Dubbed “The Spirit of Christmas”, 300,000 sparkling LED lights, 16 large Spirits with a 17-metre wing span and 15-metre train of lights, run the length of Regent Street and across Piccadilly into St James’s, finishing at Waterloo Place.  they were switched on by Jodie Whittaker on 15th November 2018

The sparkly lights of Oxford Street were switched on November 6th.
