The City Adventurers went to a special screening of “The Other Fellow”. Billed as a film about men – real men – men named James Bond.
Written by Matthew Bauer and Rene van Pannevis, and directed by Matthew Bauer, this documentary explores what it means to have the name James Bond. It interviews an assortment of men who share their name with the spy. A number of them were there with the director on the night and took part in a Q&A session after the screening.
We even got to meet James Bond (previously known as Gunnar Schaefer), a Swedish resident of Nybro, who happens to be the proprietor of “the world’s only James Bond museum”. This Bond loves the character and has built his identity around it. Others in the film had the name thrust upon them, and some were Bond before Bond was Bond…..
“An energetic exploration of masculine identity through the lives, personalities and adventures of a diverse band of men – real men across the globe all sharing the name James Bond. Spanning tales from Swedish 007 super-fan with a Nazi past, a gay New York theatre director, an African American Bond accused of murder, and two resilient women caught up in it all.“
