Cult destination

Pittsburgh has been used as the setting for many zombie games and films. George Romero filmed the 1977 Zombie classic Dawn of the Dead at the Monroeville Mall. As Andrew notes “The games Urban Dead and Left 4 Dead were both set in Pittsburgh, the films Diary of the Dead, Land of the Dead and the original novel version of Resident Evil are all based near the city.”

Now Pittsburgh has become a cult destination for zombies fans to visit and re-enact scenes from their favourite Zombie films or games.

Zombie walks and  World Zombie Day

In 2006 Pittsburgh’s first zombie walk at Monroeville Mall attracted 892 Zombies. Since then the crawl has grown in popularity with zombie walks across the world.

More than 50 cities worldwide participate in World Zombie Day. This international annual event brings fans of Zombie culture together with a fundraising zombie walk that raises money to relieve hunger and homelessness.

In London funds are being raised for  St. Mungo’s, a charity that works for the homeless by reaching out to rough sleepers and helping them off the streets.

WORLD ZOMBIE DAY: LONDON

Scheduled for 10 October 2015, hundreds of zombies are expected to groan and shamble through Central London in aid of the charity St. Mungo’s Broadway. The zombie horde will make its way around a pre-arranged route, calling at set locations while taking in some of London’s most beloved landmarks. Throughout the day there are also expected to be special performances by The Men That Will Not Be Blamed For Nothing, Anarchistwood and The Creeping Terrors.
