Peace On Earth

The Little Drummer Boy / Peace On Earth

A fascinating moment in pop history saw rock icon David Bowie join crooner Bing Crosby for the TV special Bing Crosby’s A Merrie Olde Christmas. The infamous Christmas duet between David Bowie and Bing Crosby, recorded on September 11, 1977, merged the old and the new in more ways than one. As well as joining new and old singers, the performance joined together  “The Little Drummer Boy” , written by the American classical music composer and teacher Katherine Kennicott Davis in 1941 and a newly composed counterpoint, “Peace on Earth” .

Bing Crosby died on October 14, nearly five weeks after recording the special at Elstree Studios. His performance was screened on air posthumously on November 30, 1977 in the U.S.A and on December 24, 1977 in the UK.
