Dydd Gwŷl Dewi (Sant) hapus

Celebrations in the Welsh capital.

Cardiff will be celebrating St David’s day on 1st March with The National St David’s Day Parade.

A highlight of spring in Wales, the parade is a red and yellow carnival, featuring  giant dragons and theatrical groups.

Stretching across the centre of Cardiff,  the procession finishes outside St David’s Hall with a rousing mass rendition of the national anthem, Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau

Land of My Fathers

The national anthem of Wales, “Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau” means “Old Land of My Fathers” but is usually referred to as “Land of My Fathers”. It was written  in January 1856 by Pontypridd residents Evan James (words) and  his son, James James (music).  The earliest written copy survives and is part of the collections of the National Library of Wales.
