Riding the Rails – Sawai Madhopur to Bharatpur

The nearest town to the Ranthambore National Park is Sawai Madhopur. Having completed our tiger safari, the next day we moved on by train towards Agra.

Most of our luggage had been taken on ahead by road, so we were left with only our cabin bags. Good job too, as our transport to the station was by canter. We’d ridden such  jeeps the previous day on our safari. Now they were taking us to the station, before returning for their pre-dawn tiger excursions.

Stumbling out into the cold dark morning, clutching our hand luggage, we crammed ourselves onto the canters for the trip to Sawai Madhopur railway station.

The sun was just rising as we waited for our train to Bharatpur.

As we’d left the hotel before dawn, we had been given packed breakfasts to eat on the train.

Fighting our way through the tuk-tuks to our coach we settled down for the short drive to our next sightseeing adventure.
