Standing 309.9m high, The Shard gives visitors London’s highest view. It is the tallest completed building in the EU (for now) and the 59th tallest building in the world.
There are 87 levels in The Shard, including 27 floors of offices, 3 floors of restaurants and 19 floors of hotel accommodation. Inside The Shard there are 44 lifts and 306 flights of stairs, while outside there are 11,000 glass panels, which is equal to eight football pitches. There are public viewing galleries at the top called The View from The Shard. From here you can see up to 40 miles away.
We got our tickets and walked through metal detectors while our bags were x-rayed. Just like being in an airport. Then we queued for one of the two lifts to reach the top at Level 72. The elevators move at about six metres per seconds and can make your ears pop from the speed. As well as an indoor viewing platform there is an open air Skydeck on Level 72. There is another indoor viewing platform on Level 69 too.
Around the viewing gallery are signs pointing out key landmarks, such as Wembley Station, the BT Tower, and The London Eye.
Drinks and snacks are available to purchase…….and you can use the facilities with the greatest views of the Capital.
