The Yorkshire Sculpture Park features around 80 sculptures and installations to see in the open air. The other year we joined a group visit to the park. Some of the works are still on display, but Not Vital’s exhibition ended in 2017.
Henry Moore
Henry Moore was the first patron of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. He wanted his work displayed in the Country Park. His Upright Motives were part of a large commission, for the courtyard of the new Olivetti building in Milan. Altogether Moore created twelve Upright Motives in the mid 1950s.
Jonathan Borofsky
The figures in Molecule Man 1+1+1, by Jonathan Borofsky, are arranged in such a way that, although facing in different directions, they are able to communicate with each other.
Elisabeth Frink
The Riace Figures II, III, IV, with their painted faces and muscular stature, demonstrate Elisabeth Frink’s interest in warriors.
Not Vital
Artwork by Not Vital was on view until 2 January 2017.
Ai Weiwei
Sited in the historic Chapel courtyard, the Iron Tree is a reminder of Ai Weiwei’s 2014 exhibition.
