The City Adventurers attended another talk by Authors. This time it was at Walthamstow Library and the authors were a local couple called David Gardiner and Jean Duggleby. Both read short stories from their books.
About David Gardiner
David Gardiner’s latest collection of short stories, Before I Go…, came out in paperback on 30 Mar. 2024. It came about when, just after the Covid pandemic, a young man told him that he had read and enjoyed David’s two short story collections and that he should produce a third one “before you go.” “Before I Go…” is available from Amazon
An expat Irishman, former teacher and ‘professional student’, now living in East London with partner Jean. David is the author of a sci fi novel (‘Sirat’, 2000) and two short story collections (‘The Rainbow Man‘, 2003 and ‘The Other End of the Rainbow‘, 2008) plus a number of stories in various magazines and anthologies. He is co-editor of Gold Dust magazine and volunteer editor for Merilang Press and UKA Press. His novel, ‘Engineering Paradise‘, is the story of Danny, a teenage boy growing up in Belfast in the 1960s. The first part of this novel has now been made the basis of a stage musical ‘Engineering Paradise the Musical’. About Jean Duggleby
Jean wrote her first short story at the age of 73 and, until then, had never thought of herself as a writer. She says that an advantage of writing as an older person, particularly if you’ve led a fairly full life, is that you have plenty of experiences and memories to tap into. Add a pinch of imagination and you have a short story. Her book of 24 stories is called It’s Never Too Late.
