A film that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

With its stellar cast including Helen Mirren and Alan Rickman in his last acting role we chose Eye in the Sky. This British thriller is directed by Gavin Hood and based on Guy Hibbert’s screenplay about drone warfare. I’m not a great war film fan but, from the trailer, this one seemed to have more of a court-room drama feel. The action centers on the military and politicians, spread across various continents, who are battling the legal and ethical issues surrounding using drones to attack terrorists. What starts as a “capture” exercise quickly degenerates into a “kill” mission as new intelligence emerges.

A new weapon in the age-old ethical debate: If your action could save hundreds of lives but kill one innocent person, would you do it?

The film is intense and had me on the edge of my seat, caught up in the would they / wouldn’t they dilemma. At the end I felt drained.

On a superficial level this film is thought-provoking and entertaining, but there is something more. It’s only by reading the reviews after seeing the movie you discover there is a hell of a lot more going on than you realised. Things that your subconscious picked up on, that your conscious was only vaguely aware of.
