Harry Potter and the Cursed Child book launches

Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany and Jack Thorne, the new play “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” by Jack Thorne is the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage. It received its world premiere in London’s West End on 30th July 2016.

The story is also the eighth book in the Harry Potter series.

Set 19 years after the last book ended, Harry Potter is now an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic. He’s also a husband and father of three school-age children. And that’s not all he has to grapple with….as the book write up says “While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.”

The book is not  a new novel, but the script of the play. As such it has been described as lacking the detail and description that were present in the rest of the series. Reading the script cannot compare to seeing the show live. Reviews say it is a truly remarkable piece of theatre and a most spectacular experience with amazing special effects. If you read the book after you have seen the play you will be able to reminisce, and if you can’t see the show, let your imagination take flight.
