Christmas lights in Regent Street.
Regent Street was lined with Christmas trees in 1948 throughout the festive period. The following year part of the street was lit for Christmas. The first full Christmas light display of the street started in 1954. There were no Christmas lights from 1972 to 1977 due to a lack of funding.
A new take on the 1954 Christmas Lights, this year display is the largest scheme ever embarked on by Regent Street. This year 300,000 sparkling LED lights, 16 large Spirits with a 17-metre wing span and 15-metre train of lights, will be used to light up the Regent Street area. Dubbed “The Spirit of Christmas”, the lights will run the length of Regent Street and across Piccadilly into St James’s, finishing at Waterloo Place.
