Phantom Peak – Starlit Summer (Review)

The City Adventurers headed back to the purpose-built steam punk town known as Phantom Peak. Having attended the Festival of Innovation at Phantom Peak, The City Adventurers were keen to return for Starlit Summer. What would Summer at the Peak have in store for us?

Phantom Peak is a unique immersive open-world adventure. A Disneyesque quality town inhabited by quirky characters that you navigate your way through as you solve missions. This time we knew that, with four hours to explore, we would have plenty of time to solve three missions and still have time to stop for a relaxed lunch and a drink in the Thirsty Frontier Saloon.

Of course we could have completed fewer missions and spent more time relaxing over a drink and soaking up the atmosphere of the place. But we were there to solve mysteries and to win completion cards and, during this season, tokens for our team.

Yes, this time we were allocated teams, with The City Adventurers being members of the Klacky Kabin. Team members were given coloured wrist bands to show their allegiance and could win tokens for their team. At the end of the day, the winning team’s representative was awarded a prize……although maybe not the prize they would have wanted!

After the welcome meeting by the Mayor everyone used their phones to select a mission. This time we were a bigger team and selected someone to be in charge of the phone app. With four people and one phone you have to rely on listening to a team mate read the text message. As noted in the previous blog, a team of 4 or less seems to work best due to you all crowded around one phone.

This time we took a chance on agreeing to missions that included crawling and small spaces, but the missions assigned to us did not include any such hazards. The app selected our missions and gave us a brief description of what we were solving. It then directed us to a particular location or person to be introduced to our mission.

Solving each mystery was like being on a giant treasure hunt. We needed to get answers from different people and places scattered around the town. With a certain amount of puzzle solving involved, the comparison with treasure hunts and escape room is justified.

Even though we had been to the town before, it took us a while to work out where everything was and what everything did. In addition to the Jonassist website on our phone, we had to interact with Phantom Peaks’s unique technology including Jonavision, Jonagraph, and new for 2024: Klacky!

We had a wonderful time and completed three missions. (Whiskers in the Dark, Pocket Dial and Post Nuclear Family).

Phantom Peak is a first-of-its-kind immersive experience, integrating elements of escape rooms, immersive theatre, and social gaming. Guests embark on missions that require puzzle solving,
reveal secrets, and foster interactions with the populace of this elaborate and mysterious town.
