The City Adventurers took a trip to Emmerdale Village.
Yes, it is a real place……well a sort of “real” place.
It is actually a purpose built village (in a secret location).
When the cameras stop rolling, and the cast head home for the weekend, the filming location offers a behind-the-scenes guided tour of Yorkshire’s ‘hidden’ village.
Due to Emmerdale’s secret filming location, you have to take a coach from the Weetwood Hall Hotel car park to the production set of Emmerdale Village. For those that cannot arrive this way, disabled parking can be arranged nearer the village visitor centre.
We were met by our guide in the visitor centre for the short walk into the village. There was time to strike a pose next to the famous Emmerdale sign, before continuing into the village past the bus stop.
Our tour guide entertained us with intriguing set stories and soap trivia along the way. Even if you haven’t been a regular viewer to the show, which has been running for the last five decades, there is something for everyone to enjoy here.
Of course, there are unmistakable locations en route, such as the quaint and colourful David’s Shop. We all took turns to stand on the the steps of The Woolpack and we got to visit iconic external sets like Café Mainstreet and Dingles Automotive.
Remember this is an outdoor village tour. The 80-minute tour covers rough terrain, gradients, slopes and grass. Yes, it is open to the elements. Yes, it rained during our visit, but we were lucky enough to be near the church and sought sanctuary there until it stopped.
Back inside the Visitor Centre there was time to have a drink, use the facilities and wander around the Emmerdale gift shop for unique souvenirs to commemorate our visit.
