This year the City Adventurers have visited a range of different theatrical productions.
Some have been big productions in London’s West End, while some have been smaller productions. Others have been local theatres. Some have been fantastic. Some not so good. But it’s always been a great time, especially when sharing the experience with friends.

Sinatra The Musical
The City Adventures took a group to see Sinatra, the musical about the life of Frank Sinatra. It starts on New Year’s Eve, 1942, with Frank as a skinny 27-year-old Italian American singer. As his career skyrockets, his personal life struggles and his torrid affair with Ava Gardner, sends his career into a tailspin. Can he make it back to the top? Great singing, great show. Beetlejuice: The Musical
Be careful how you say his name!

I’m Every Woman – The Chaka Khan Musical
Now that Starlight has chugged down the track, the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre is home toe I’m Every Woman – The Chaka Khan Musical. Loved her music but knew little about her life before seeing the show. The play has quite a twist…..

Titanique
With the music of Céline Dion and a storyline vaguely following the film Titanic all mixed together you get the show TITANIQUE. This is New York’s most award-winning splash hit that turns one of the greatest love stories of all time into a hysterical musical fantasia. We loved it.

Closing Soon
The Truth
The Truth is hilarious. One of the few times you go to a theatre where the whole audience are laughing out loud. This play uses language to convey the humour and is a very clever comedy that explores how trust can be fragile, loyalty is negotiable, and everyone has something to hide.

The Producers
Another beautiful theatre, the Garrick Theatre, is staging a colourful production of The Producers. Expect a satirical black comedy, which bills itself as an “equal opportunity offender.” Be quick if you want to book, as this show is about to finish. Tickets available at https://tidd.ly/4zFAPI5

Sorry Prime Minister
The final instalment in the hapless career of Jim Hacker. Sorry Prime Minister was a great comedy play that had all the elements beloved from the original TV shows. The City Adventurers had a fantastic afternoon out.
Shadowlands
Aldwych Theatre was the beautiful venue where we saw Shadowlands.
Based on a true story, Shadowlands told the story of C.S. Lewis and his wife, spirited American poet Joy Davidman, whose unexpected love transformed his orderly academic What began as a meeting of minds became an uplifting and powerful journey of love and the fragile beauty of life. A truly wonderful production.
Allegra
The City Adventurers spent an enjoyable Sunday afternoon at Allegra. Dame Maureen Lipman played a woman who had a real zest for life and an irresistible urge to sing. But would her constant enthusiasm for song be her downfall?
Into The Woods
Having heard good reviews about this production, The City Adventurers visited the Bridge Theatre with West End Outings to see Into The Woods. Great performance.
The spy who came in from the cold
An amazing production of The Spy Who Came In From The Cold at Soho Place. We thoroughly enjoyed it. And the big question? How does an actor hold his breath for that long during the torture scene?
1536
1536 was the winner of the 2024 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize. This darkly comic hit explored the dynamics of female friendship in a world stacked against women. Set in Tudor England, it was a great exploration of how women support each other (or don’t) as gossip spreads….

Mrs President at the Charing Cross Theatre revealed a story about Abraham Lincoln’s wife we didn’t know.
The Mesmerist
We travelled to Watford Palace Theatre to see The Mesmerist. Interesting production. Difficult to say what was real and what was an illusion….

The City Adventurers headed to Walthamstow Village to see A Fete Worse Than Death. What we expected was a murder mystery mystery. Unfortunately, that was not what we got!
