Three Exhibitions and a Treasure Hunt – part 4

A search for Must-see Paintings in The National Gallery

We downloaded a list of “Must-see Paintings” from the National Gallery website and went searching for them, Treasure Hunt Style.

Armed with our trusty list of artworks we explored the galleries, ticking off paintings as we found them. Of the 30 paintings the National Gallery suggests, we found most of them.

Whistlejacket by George Stubbs is currently out on loan, but we have seen it during one of our National Gallery Treasure Hunts. In fact a number of the pieces have been featured in previous treasure hunts.  But even knowing where they used to be, doesn’t help you find them now. A lot of the artwork moves from gallery to gallery, pieces go out on loan and other pieces appear in exhibitions. For example The Virgin of the Rocks by Leonardo da Vinci is the current star of the Leonardo – Experience a Masterpiece exhibition.
