Not having seen the film, The City Adventurers did not know what to expect from this musical, but with songs by Elton John how could we go wrong?
Plot
Fresh out of college, aspiring journalist Andy scores a job at the prestigious Runway magazine working for fashion’s most powerful and terrifying icon — editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly. Sacrificing her personal life to meet Miranda’s impossible demands, Andy finds herself seduced by the glamorous world she once despised. How far will she go to succeed… and will it be worth selling her soul to get what she’s always wanted.
The City adventurers loved The Devil Wears Prada.
The show takes place at The Dominion, a Grade II listed Art deco theatre in the heart of London’s West End. The grand auditorium seats 2,069 people over two levels. We were lucky enough to book tickets near the front of the stalls, so we had a great view.
The musical follows Andy as she lands a job at a fashion magazine under the demanding Miranda Priestly. The show features some amazing group numbers as Andy transforms from journalist to fashionista. But was the change worth it?
As you might expect, Vanessa Williams was fantastic in the iconic role of Miranda Priestly. However the rest of the cast were fantastic too. Amy Di Bartolomeo shines as Emily, Miranda’s right hand woman and Matt Henry is touching as Nigel. Georgie Buckland makes a wonderful west end debut as Andy. Joining them are the dashing James Darch as journalist Christian, with handsome Rhys Whitfield as Andy’s long-term boyfriend, Nate.
We loved it. Go along and have yourself “a devil of a good time”!
