Stepping back in time at Lindisfarne Priory

The City Adventurers visited Lindisfarne Priory last September. If you’re looking for a place that feels like it’s been plucked right out of a history book, this place is it.

Tucked away on Holy Island, just off the Northumberland coast, this place is steeped in history. You can literally feel the stories in the stones. Getting there is an adventure in itself – you have to time your visit right with the tides, which adds to the feeling of stepping into a hidden world.

As soon as you walk through the entrance, you’re greeted by the stunning ruins of the priory. The soaring archways and crumbling walls are incredibly atmospheric. We spent ages just wandering around, imagining what life must have been like for the monks who lived here hundreds of years ago. It’s a place that really sparks the imagination!

The priory includes a famous “Rainbow Arch”. This is a beautiful part of the ruins that frames the sky perfectly. It’s a fantastic spot for a photo, but even more so, a perfect spot to just stand and contemplate the history all around you.

As well as the priory there is a small museum at the site and a gift shop.

If you get a chance, we’d highly recommend a trip to Lindisfarne Priory. It’s a true Northumberland gem.
